A group of caravanners will be helping to bring some joy to people this Christmas via the Blythswood Care Shoe Box Appeal 2008.
Since the beginning of the caravan season in April, a group of retired ladies have met every Wednesday at a caravan on the Redford Caravan Park, Princes Gate, to enjoy sewing and handicraft projects.
One of their members, Mrs. Lyn Richards, came across a charity called Blythswood Care who are responsible for the shoe box appeal, sending parcels to a number of countries, including Romania, Albania and India every Christmas.
As a result, they started making hats for children to be included in the shoe boxes for Christmas 2008.
The ladies' enthusiasm for this project has been infectious and they have also made scarves, gloves and hand-made toys.
The ladies have also encouraged their friends and families to donate new items such as stationery, children's clothes and small toys to help fill the shoe boxes.
In addition, a large amount of nearly new clothes has also been collected, which will also be sent this Christmas.
The ladies held their final meeting before the end of the caravan season on Wednesday when they made a final collection of all the goods they have made and collected in order to pass them on in time for distribution this Christmas.
In total, they have made 628 woolly hat and 19 bean dolls.
The ladies involved were Barbara Lake, Blodwen Clark, Edna Bees, Gloria Morgan, Jean and John Forward (Reynalton), Jennette Neill, Lyn Richards, Rachel Krolzig (Narberth), Patricia Sheward and Shirley Davies.
The group would like to thank Mike, Anne and Sara, of Redford Caravan Park, Inhouse Quilting, Narberth, and Orielton School, for their donations, plus everyone else who gave their support.
Anyone who would like further information about the project is asked to contact Rose Graves on 01656 865997.
