Off-street parking increases for some of Pembrokeshire County Council’s car park facilities in Tenby come into force later this month.

Correspondence brought before members of Tenby Town Council at their meeting on Tuesday night from the authority’s head of highways and construction, Darren Thomas, stated that the variation of parking charges would be implemented from Monday, March 19.

The ‘notice of variation’ was approved by PCC’s cabinet earlier last month.

The cost of parking at Tenby’s multi-storey for an hour-long period will rise from 40p to 50p, with a 10p increase to 60p also implemented for two hours.

Seasonal variations throughout the year will also apply to weekly and 24-hour passes.

Other car parks featured in the price hike in Tenby include the North Beach, Salterns, South Beach, The Croft and The Green.

The town clerk, Andrew Davies, told members that, whilst he wanted to highlight the matter to make motorists aware that the increases would begin later this month, one spot of ‘good news’ resulting from the consultations, based on feedback provided by the town council, was that a seasonal pass for the multi-storey in Tenby would now cover the full 12 months of the year, and not exclude July and August, as proposals had previously recommended.

Clr. Mrs. Alex Rees said that whilst she appreciated the authority was ‘tightening budgets’ across the board, it would be useful to see the time limit on free parking bays within the town increased, with such a vast increase to off-street car parking charges.

“This is a huge increase for car parking in Tenby, and perhaps consideration should be given to increasing the amount of free parking bays in the town. We have no two-hour spaces like they do, say in Narberth, and I think that is detrimental to Tenby,” she remarked.
