Tenby Town Council are to contact the county council with a view to utilising the former Cottage Hospital site off Trafalgar Road as a car park for locals.
Councillors backed the idea last year and made enquiries to Pembrokeshire County Council about leasing the site temporarily as a car park, but were rebuffed as the authority said that they were looking to put the land on the market.
Speaking at Tuesday night's meeting of the town council, Clr. Lawrence Blackhall said that he thought it would be worthwhile enquiring again.
"The county council said they were looking to put the site on the market by September; it's now nearing the end of November and nothing appears to have happened, so I think there would still be an opportunity to put in a car park which would be beneficial to locals and the community as a whole," he told his colleagues.
Clr. Mike Evans felt that the town council could even take on the land on a freehold basis, rather than just a lease.
Members backed this proposal, while Clr. Blackhall said that it would probably cost in the region of £4,000 to install a barrier system at the site for a car park facility.
