Parking bays at Tenby's multi-storey car park are in desperate need of a review, according to a town councillor.

Clr. Mrs. Tish Rossiter told her colleagues at Tuesday night's meeting of the town council that she believed the bays were far too small to be able to cope with some of today's motor vehicles. She said that the matter was also concerning residents who were rightly afraid to park their vehicles in the bays, as they had experienced instances where their cars had been damaged from other inconsiderate motorists opening their doors against vehicles in the tight spaces.

"The bay widths don't seem to have been changed in the past 40 years; it is virtually impossible to get your vehicle in a bay alongside another. Cars are bigger and wider in this day and age and it's time that the width of the bays was looked in to," stressed Clr. Mrs. Rossiter.

"I know it would mean losing valuable parking spaces which the town desperately needs, but what's the point of having spaces at the multi- storey when motorists can't trust their vehicles to be undamaged when they return," she added.

Mayor, Clr. John Griffiths, felt that the matter could be addressed when Pembrokeshire County Council's design plans to re-vamp the car park came into fruition.

However, he agreed that the authorities should be informed of the council's concerns.
