The curtain finally fell on the Chicken Trotters' season last Friday, with the annual competition for the Danny Carew Putter and the Norman Badham Cup.

With the weather forecasters not inspiring great confidence in the day's conditions, disappointingly only 13 Chicks took to the links to do battle.

Fortunately, however, the majority of them managed to return to the coop without getting their feathers wet, as the afternoon turned rather nasty, with heavy rain and near gale-force winds finally arriving.

By that time, however, the Chickens were sitting down in the warm and comfortable surroundings of the newly-refurbished clubhouse enjoying a hearty lunch, prior to the trophy presentations.

Among those on the top table were Chief Chicken Morran Boot along with his sidekick and financial wizard Micky Johnston, while among the guests welcomed were club captain Idwal David, club secretary Dave Hancock, his office assistant Marilyn Marquiss and professional David Ayers.

David had actually played in the competition alongside captain Idwal, a regular Friday morning trotter. His score shall remain under wraps, but Idwal obviously benefited from having him by his side as he romped to success in the Danny Carew Putter.

Meanwhile, top dog in the Norman Badham Cup for over 70s was the twos machine Richard Morgan, although on this occasion he didn't bag a birdie.

And neither did anyone else for that matter.

After the meal, Chief Chicken Morran thanked the Trotters and his helpers for their support throughout the season and the caterers for providing an excellent meal.

There was also praise for the greens staff, while captain Idwal toasted the Chickens and hoped that they would long continue.

As has now become customary, the trophies and prizes were then presented by Marilyn Marquiss, while Chicken officials Morran and Micky each received a bottle of wine from the captain as a thank you for their work.

Results in the two competitions were as follows:

Danny Carew Putter: 1. Idwal David 33 pts (trophy and bottle of wine); 2. Rick Lewis 31 (bottle of wine and two golf balls); 3. Neil Dickinson 26 (bottle of wine and one golf ball).

Norman Badham Cup (for over 70s): 1. Richard Morgan 27 pts (cup and bottle of wine); 2. Ken Gouldsbrough 23 (bottle of wine and two golf balls); 3. Doug Havard 21 (bottle of wine and one golf ball).
