'Carry on Regardless' was the order of the night on Friday, July 4. The ladies (sorry Maurice and David!) of the Carew and Cresswell Quay Cancer Research committee, in that stoical spirit which seems to prevail when faced, in this case, with the adverse weather conditions of our so-called 'summer', put on a magnificent Pig Roast at Cresswell Quay. With Maurice and Carol slaving over a sizzling barbecue under the biggest brolly imaginable, and ably assisted by several committee members, pork, sausages and burgers in rolls were quickly made up and sold to those prepared to brave the elements. The stall was laid out with care, and as usual laden with an array of enticing goods, but was awash before too long, it and the people running it, getting soaked! Those doing the raffle managed to sell a great amount of tickets before being rained off. The raffle was drawn in the warmth of the Cresselly Arms. The first prize was won by Elliot and Ellen Thomas, it being a bottle of rum. There were 11 other prizes, all kindly donated, among them wine, chocolates, toiletries and a plant. The remaining prize winners were Gwen (Aynsley china), Roger Scourfield (china teapot), Marilyn Neale (plant), Brenda Harris (toiletries), Kurt Liddle (wine), Gwynneth Jones (wine), Rachel Scourfield (toiletries), Barbara Phillips (coffee maker), Joan Parry (toiletries, chocolates), Hugh and Ken Lewis (bathroom set). Considering the awful conditions, an unbelievable total was reached of £1,090.40. Some £450 of this was raised through very generous donations. Grateful thanks go to all those whose hard work made the evening possible, and to those who supported the evening and were not put off by the deluge! It means a lot to a great many people.
