Sir,
I would be extremely grateful if anyone can help me in any small way with my family tree research.
I recently paid a rather hurried visit to Tenby and its environs in order to find out where my great-great-grandparents were farming in the 1860s. I managed to locate Broadfield Farm (now a caravan/camping site) and St. Issell's Church.
Unfortunately, however, I could not really see a village of St. Issell's nor could I find Alma Cottage, Tenby. Admittedly this latter search was always going to be difficult without any street name to hand.
If anyone knows where this cottage is located, it would be brilliant if a digital photo could be sent to me. The house probably dates from around 1860 as the Battle of Alma took place in 1854 during the Crimean War. Of course, the house may have been re-named, though I hope there is the legend 'Alma Cottage' carved out of the stone above the door still visible.
I have also enclosed a summary of my Welsh family knowledge.
Nathaniel Collins (senior): d.o.b. circa 1817 in Amroth. Father - Thomas Collins (farmer); mother - Martha Morris.
1841 Census - farm labourer at farm at Churchton, St. Issells, belonging to Margaret Morgans (widow whose husband, John, died in 1837).
1851 Census - Nathaniel married Margaret Morgans (father James Waters) on August 18, 1844. They were farming 50 acres and living at 29 Church Hill, St. Issells. Three children - Thomas, Nathaniel, Martha.
1861 Census - farming 80 acres at Broadfield Farm, St. Mary Out Liberty, Tenby.
1871 and 1881 Census - 84 acres Broadfield Farm.
1882 - Margaret died aged 79 years.
1891 Census - Nathaniel appears to have re-married to Annie Phillips (aged 35). Possible death of Nathaniel, January 1903, Pembroke.
Nathaniel Collins (junior): d.o.b. 1846 St. Issells.
Married Anne Alice Dunkley (from Laughton, Leicestershire). Their daughter, Martha Margaret Malinda Collins was born July 3, 1868, at Alma Cottage, Tenby.
1861 Census - Nathaniel is a 15-year-old carpenter's apprentice. (His wife's father and grandfather were carpenters).
Any additions to this, no matter how small, would be great. Maybe there are some fellow family tree fans researching the same families (Collins, Morgans, Waters, Morris) or someone who might now why a carpenter from Leicestershire might have taken his family to live in Pembrokeshire at that time.
Many thanks for your help.
