Sir,

I would be grateful if I may enlist the aid of your columns to appeal for information on some of my wife's forebears living in Pembrokeshire in the mid 19th century.

My wife (nee Williams) was descended from Thomas Bowen Harries Williams (d.1919). Another family connection was a Frederick Bowen and S. A. Bowen, the former living at Llwyn Gwair in 1844. Another connection lived in a large house named, or at, Cilrhedyn (sometimes spelt Kilrhedyn).

From the Ordnance map I see mention of Cilrhedyn Uchaf and Cilrhedyn in the Gwaun Valley. There is also a village called Cilrhedyn just on the Pembrokeshire side of the county boundary with Carmarthenshire, some few miles south-west of Newcastle Emlyn. Present evidence would seem to suggest that the particular Cilrhedyn was a large house rather than the name of a village or hamlet.

If any of your readers have any information that may relate to these matters, I would be most grateful if they would get in touch with me. Postage will be refunded.
