Callous thieves have stolen money from a popular charity collection landmark in Tenby. The water fountain, which is situated next to JT's Diner and Coffee Shop and within the grounds of St. Mary's Church in St. Georges Street, has become a famous feature for its fund-raising, with all coins collected donated towards the Ty Hafan Children's Hospice charity. However, during the early hours of last Friday morning, shortly after 2 am, thieves broke into the fountain and stole a large sum of money that had been collected, gaining entry by bending the bars at the back in the church grounds. "This shows how low some people will go and this theft is beyond belief," said a police spokesperson. "For someone to enter the grounds of the churchyard, pull the drainpipe off the wall, bend one of the iron bars and turn off the water in order to steal from the charity fountain shows that this was obviously thought out and not just some kids playing around." Anyone with any information or who may have seen anything suspicious is asked to contact Tenby police station on 0845 330 2000.
