Police have described a theft from one of the nuns private quarters on Caldey Island as a 'callous act'. The black leather purse containing a considerable amount of money was stolen sometime between 11.10 and 11.45 am last Wednesday. "The thief entered the property of a single lone female whilst she was in the garden area," said the officer in the case, PC914 Trish Dixon. "A male person aged approximately 50 years of age was seen running from the area," she continued. "This male person also entered the monastery and was challenged by one of the monks there." This male is described as approximately six-foot tall, tanned and athletically built. He was wearing a dark blue hooded top and blue jeans and was carrying a camera over his shoulder. "This was an extremely callous act on a sacred religious island," said PC Dixon. Police are appealing for any witnesses to come forward. In particular, PC914 Dixon would like to speak to this male person if only to eliminate him from the inquiry. She can be contacted at Tenby police station on 0845 330 2000.
