A call for an urgent upgrade of a notorious flooding blackspot has been made this week.
County Clr. Michael Williams, of Tenby, has written to Pembrokeshire County Council's director of transportation, Mr. Ian Westley, drawing his attention to the continual flooding of the highway from the bottom of Gumfreston Hill to Heywood Lane, Tenby.
Said Clr. Williams in his letter: "It would appear that every time we have a period of heavy rainfall, this area becomes impassable to traffic.
"I did request some three years ago that the council might investigate a long-term solution to the problem which now occurs so frequently.
"With the new financial year not far away, might I propose that your department undertake an initial study to identify ways in which this problem could be alleviated, with a capital sum then included in the commitment for next year?"
Clr. Williams continued: "The situation over the last weekend has made life difficult for many who regularly use this road, and it urgently needs addressing. I had cause to travel to Pembroke Dock last Saturday evening, and the amount of traffic using The Ridgeway was amazing, due to the diversion. This road is not much more than a county lane, and with such heavy traffic use becomes quite dangerous."
And he concluded: "I note the next council meeting is on December 10. It might be appropriate for an item to be on the agenda in my name as a way of bringing this matter forward."
