Urgent intervention by the Health Board is now required to deal with the GP crisis situation in Tenby, according to the Labour Parliamentary Candidate for the area, Delyth Evans.
Ms Evans met with Bernardine Rees, chair of Hywel Dda Health Board, last week, and was told that the Health Board is doing its best to resolve the problem, but no timescale was given for an improvement in the current situation.
Ms Evans has now written to the new chief executive of the Health Board, Steve Moore, asking him to give the matter his full attention.
In her letter to the Health Board chief executive, Ms Evans wrote: "I speak to people every week in Tenby and this is the first thing that comes up in conversation. Their anger and frustration is made worse by the perception that no-one is listening and nothing is being done. Now that you have had a few weeks to settle in to your new post, I urge you to give this matter your full attention and explain to the people of Tenby what specific action you are taking to address the immediate problem and to find a more permanent solution. This is the very least they deserve."
Writing in the Observer this week, Ms Evans says: "The National Health Service is based on the premise that we can get to see our GP when we are ill and it is truly disgraceful that the system in Tenby is failing at this very first point of contact with no resolution in sight."
Ms Evans goes on to say she will probably be accused of electioneering, but that the situation is unacceptable and requires an urgent response.
