The annual Caldey Swim - postponed earlier this month due to weather conditions - takes place this Sunday.

The 2.5 mile swim, between the monastic island and the Tenby mainland, raises money for Tenby RNLI and Tenby Surflink.

Around 100 swimmers are set to take part in the event, which has established itself as a popular and challenging one on the open water swimming calendar.

It is being sponsored this year by the Port of Milford Haven, Princes Gate Spring Water, Harbour Wealth, FBM Holidays, Tenby House Hotel and Four Seasons.

The swim starts from Caldey’s Priory Beach at noon, with swimmers making the crossing with the support of a fleet of safety craft.

The finishing point is at the back of Tenby Harbour quay, with the first swimmer being welcomed home at around 12.50 pm. Entrants have until 2 pm to complete the distance.

The event is organised by Tenby Sea Swimming Association, whose chairman, Chris Osborne, said this week: “It was obviously disappointing to have to postpone the swim but the safety of our swimmers was paramount. We are keeping our fingers crossed for kindly, temperate conditions on Sunday.”
