LISTENERS to BBC Radio Wales' programme 'Natural Histories' this weekend will hear from Father Stephen, of Caldey Island in this Sunday's edition about the perfumes the monks make on the isle.

The monks chose gorse to create one of their first perfumes way back in the 1950s and Father Stpehen, one of the oldest monks on the island, remembers in this programme, which is all about bracken, gorse and heather, the days when the monks would go out and pick the petals off the prickly plants.

These days, the perfume is made far more scientifically, but the inspiration remains the same.

The programme will be broadcast on Sunday at 12.30 pm and repeated on Monday at 6 pm.
