Gone are the days of expecting little more than a greasy burger in a polystyrene box with watery tomato ketchup from a mobile food van. Word has now spread of the seaweed beef burgers, local shellfish rolls and exotic relishes such as kelpchup and punchy cucumber pickles to be found on the menu at Café Môr, Freshwater West.

Something which may be rather more unexpected however, is the large converted fishing boat the quirky menu is served out of. As a result of years of wear and tear on the traditional old trailer, the time came when it was due retirement. Weeks of crowdfunding at the tail end of last year, meant that the Café Môr team have been able to complete work on a new mobile unit, one that once was a working boat called Jim.

The new boat on wheels is filled with all the usual kitchen appliances, and just like last year, all of the electrical equipment is powered by the sun! Café Môr is going hard on reducing waste and pollution this summer, offering water only in paper cups or as refills of existing bottles.

As ever, all the food is as local as possible and one new addition to get excited about is Barti’s Booty Sorbet made in Narberth by Fire & Ice. The Barti Ddu Spiced Rum sorbet is for over 18s only and is not to be missed!

Celebrate the dawning of the summer in Pembrokeshire’s beautiful National Park with a trip to Café Môr, where you can see this little recycled fishing boat, the very first of its kind, fuelled by the sun, big dreams and bow full of laver seaweed!
