A group of Pembroke Dock-based Air Cadets are exploring the advantages of online training, thanks to a donation of laptops from Valero Pembroke Refinery. Members of the 1574 (Pembroke Borough) Squadron Air Training Corps recently received the IT equipment and are beginning to make good use of them.

The NCO Commanding Sgt. Dorinda Sherwood said: "These laptops will enable the squadron to expand the range of opportunities we can offer our cadets, and will help make running the squadron easier as well. The cadets are able to access many online training facilities, such as aircraft recognition and programmes that can help cadets progress towards promotion. We also use the laptops to support the squadron's work, such as correspondence and record keeping. We are extremely grateful to Valero for their generosity, which has made such a difference."

Valero public affairs manager Stephen Thornton added: "The Air Training Corp is a wonderful organisation, that gives young people the opportunity to develop their skills and take part in exciting activities. It is a real pleasure, especially in Pembroke Dock's bicentenary year, to help 1547 Squadron, which is itself rooted in Pembroke Dock's military history as the only part of the former RAF Pembroke Dock still in existence."

No. 1547 (Pembroke Borough) Squadron Air Training Corp is open to male and female recruits aged 13 to 18, and meet every Wednesday. Formed in 1941, the squadron is the only part of the former RAF Pembroke Dock still in existence.
