The Pembrokeshire branch of the Royal British Legion (PRBL) is being very proactive in encouraging the induction of Cadet Forces into the Royal British Legion (RBL). As part of this initiative, the Tenby branch invited members of the Tenby Cadet Forces to a presentation ceremony at the Tenby headquarters.
Mr. John Thomas, chair of the Tenby branch of the RBL, introduced the guests, and was MC for the evening.
The president of the Tenby RBL, Mr. Wilf Hardy, opened the ceremony with the RBL exhortation. The Rector of St. Mary's Church, Rev. Andrew Davies, then said a prayer for all those involved in the present-day conflicts.
The first presentation was by Mr. W. Hardy to the Rector, to welcome him as the new honorary chaplain of Tenby RBL.
Colonel P. Howells, president of the RBL branch for Wales, then honoured Mr. W. Hardy with a certificate of recognition for his 25 years of dedicated service as president of Tenby RBL.
Mr. J. Phoenix, the president of the Pembrokeshire branch of the RBL, spoke of his delight at seeing Army Cadets, Royal Air Force Cadets and Sea Cadets at the meeting. Pembrokeshire is encouraging the affiliation of youth. Tenby is the first to have RAF Cadets joining the affiliation. The affiliation will work in two ways: the Cadets will help the RBL and the RBL will help the Cadets.
The next Mayor of Fishguard, Mr. G. Price, is going to have Cadets as escort for his Mayor-making.
The Army Cadets, of the Queens Royal Dragoon Guards, and the RAF Cadets, and Sea Cadets were each presented with a badge by Colonel P. Howells; a certificate commemorating the affiliation was presented to Sergeant Major Paul Mason, of the RD Guards, for display in their headquarters. A similar plaque was also presented to Mr. Ted Shepherd, Tenby's RBL branch delegate, for him to hang in the Tenby RBL hall.
The Mayor of Tenby, who organises the Poppy Appeal for Tenby, gave her apologies for being unable to attend the presentation ceremony.
