A review of what is being done to boost Pembrokeshire’s economy through regeneration will be reported at next week’s cabinet meeting.
The external review was commissioned by the council and looked at its current strategy and priorities and what the plan for the future is.
In June the Welsh Local Government Association assembled a team of peer reviewers and met with a “wide range of internal and external individuals.”
In the report to cabinet on Monday (October 8) key challenges were identified as capacity, clarification of roles, co-ordination and entrepreneurial flair, cohesion, communication, the loss of the head of regeneration and key relationships with external partners.
The reviewers also identified a number of opportunities including changes at corporate level, with the chief executive and leader identified as taking steps to “encourage a more proactive approach across the authority”, new political commitment to regeneration and grant funding opportunities.
The next 18 months are critical, according to the report.
It outlines actions considered necessary such as appointing a replacement for the head of regeneration, sourcing external support to kick-start key projects and review all regeneration capital projects while developing a framework for project management.
Some of these have already been completed or are underway.
Cabinet meet at 10am and the meeting will be broadcast via the counicl’s website.
