WHEN the tickets were drawn in Plaid's annual Christmas raffle, the winner of the first prize turned out to be none other than Robert Lewis (above right), Independent councillor for Martletwy, and Pembrokeshire County Council cabinet member for sports, leisure, tourism and cultural services. Clr. Lewis had purchased his winning ticket just a few days earlier from Clr. Michael Williams, Plaid's group leader on the county council. After congratulating Clr. Lewis and presenting him with a cheque for his winnings, Plaid's Assembly candidate for Carmarthen West and South Pembrokeshire, John Dixon (above left), said: "Our annual raffle is a vital part of the party's work in the constituency. Unlike the other parties, we do not receive large donations from wealthy individuals, companies and trade unions - we depend solely on the work done by our members in raising funds for our work. "Our raffle and other events are open to all, and I congratulate Clr. Lewis on being this year's winner. My congratulations and thanks also go to Mike Williams and the other party members who succeeded in selling so many tickets to their friends and acquaintances - and, of course, to all those who were persuaded to buy the tickets, sometimes regardless of their own political persuasions!"
