Sir,
It was very good to hear last week that the Assembly Special Procedure Committee has concluded in favour of the proposed and planned Redstone Cross to Slebech A40 road improvement which will include a 2 by 1 lane bypass around Robeston Wathen.
It has been very disappointing to find that since these plans were presented and approved by the Assembly in 2005, they have been delayed by objections, in particular from Pembrokeshire County Council with the support of the AM Angela Burns, wanting to have the three-lane plan changed in favour of a dual carriageway.
I was particularly surprised by the quote in your paper of October 17 from Angela Burns that "...the local residents all want a dual carriageway..." and wondered how she arrived at this conclusion.
Although there is considerable sympathy for residents and businesses adversely affected by the plan and awareness of the safety arguments relating to a dual carriageway, petitions signed by most of the households in the village in recent years have simply expressed an urgent desire for this overdue bypass to be constructed as soon as possible and to change from the planned design would delay this to some unspecified date in the distant future.
Hopefully, Angela Burns and other elected representatives of the Pembrokeshire population will now work to ensure that the road improvements are started very soon and completed satisfactorily.
M. Graceson,
Robeston Wathen.
