We have had two business meetings since our last report in the Observer (writes D.M). Bother were held at the Fourcroft Hotel.
The first was on October 12 We were to have a talk and demonstration by a reflexologist, but due to an injury it had to be cancelled. Instead, Rosemary John volunteered to tell us about her visit to her son and daughter-in-law in their new home in central Bangkok. It was a little like 'going through the keyhole'. She certainly brought the house to life for us. Particularly interesting was her account of the Buddhist Blessing on the house which she witnessed.
The following week, on October 21, we held our 63rd Birthday Dinner at the Fourcroft. It was well attended and everyone enjoyed themselves. Dennis Reed and his partner Joan and Richard Ormond, president of the Rotary Club of Tenby, and his wife Georgina were our guests.
We might say that Dennis 'sang for his supper' as he was our guest speaker. He was, as usual, uproariously funny. President Pat thanked him on our behalf, but the laughter and hilarity which greeted each piece must surely have shown our appreciation of his wit.
Our thanks went to the Fourcroft and their staff for looking after us so well.
Later that week, a group of the ladies attended a Cabaret Evening at the Picton Centre, Haverfordwest, organised by the ladies of the Inner Wheel Club. of Haverfordwest. Our group's 10-minute sketch was war time songs, courtesy of Vera Lynn, and all in 1940s dress! The whole evening was a great success.
Several of the ladies attended the District Rally at Aberavon on Saturday, October 31. Each club produced a table flower arrangement on one of two themes, 'Reach for the Stars', which is our association president's theme for her year of office, or 'Hallowe'en', because of the date. Margaret Jones organised our arrangements. It was a constructive and enjoyable occasion.
Our District chairman, Toni Lucas, attended our last meeting, which was on Monday, November 9. After a delicious meal provided for us by the Fourcroft, Toni talked to us (and gave a slide show) based on one she recently gave to District 1150 Rotary.
Her message was Inner Wheel is alive and well. She hoped that moving forward and accepting change more readily will bring in younger members and that this in turn will make for a more vibrant association.
She stressed TEAM work; Together Everyone Achieves More and then described some recent achievements in District 15.
The theme for her term of office is Real Fun and Happiness.
Her chosen charity is Ty Hafan and president Pat presented her with a cheque for £100. She told us that monies raised would be for a Wishing Well wish will be sited at Magor Services on the M4. This will ensure that money continues to come in to Ty Hafan in the future and will also bring awareness of the work of the Inner Wheel to the people who use the service area.
President Pat then asked her if she would induct our newest member, Jenny Deverson, and she did this with pleasure. The business meeting followed.
Our next meeting is the Candlelit Dinner in New Hedges Village Hall. This year it is being held on Friday, November 27. Tickets are now on sale and can be obtained from members of the Inner Wheel.
Our next meeting will be the Christmas Lunch at the Broadmead Hotel, 12 for 12.30 pm, on Monday, December 14. Any members who wish to attend and have not yet indicated they wish to do so, should get in touch with Margaret Peake before December 9.
