The past few days have been busy ones at the Community Hall in East Williamston village.

A 'Baby Fair', held on Friday, was a great success, with a number of tables laden with excellent quality children's items to attract customers.

Coffee and cakes added to the convivial atmosphere, as everyone relaxed and chatted before browsing the stalls again.

Saturday was quiz night and this month there were six tables of contestants ready for the varied and interesting questions set by Lyn Wilkinson.

The rounds on British kings and queens, music, 'something medical', children's literature, 'around the world', general knowledge, animal facts, sport, Britain and 'either/or' provided something for everyone.

The decision to play a joker on one of the rounds, for double points, had to be taken at the start and this caused much debate within the teams.

Discussion also ensued throughout the evening on the three table sheets. Two of them showed 48 pictures of TV game shows (who knew there were so many?) and the third gave cryptic clues to car makes and models.

It was all great fun, with Green Fingers finally emerging as winners, ten and a half points ahead of Family Circle in second place.

The bar was well patronised, the raffle offered a wide array of prizes and everyone thoroughly enjoyed the occasion. Doug McIntosh thanked Lyn and Ian for the very good quiz, announced the re-donation of the prize money to hall funds and outlined forthcoming events.

The first of these will be the visit of the mobile library van today (Friday), with tea and coffee available in the hall from 10 am, and an informal craft session also taking place for anyone interested in pursuing their hobby in a convivial atmosphere with friends.

Cost of tea/coffee and Welsh cakes is £1 and a donation of £2 for the craft session would be welcome, all in aid of hall funds.

The following day will be a major fund-raiser for the Community and Hall Association charity, when a Taste of the Orient Evening will take place.

All the tickets for the Thai meal and entertainment have now sold out and a lively evening is anticipated.

Guests are asked to look out for the car parking assistants when they arrive, the village roads are quite narrow, but they will be given helpful directions.

Another hall event, in aid of St. Elidyr's Church, will take place on Sunday, November 30. This will be a two-course Sunday lunch, details from 01834 812144.

On December 13, the final quiz of the year will be combined with a mulled wine and mince pies social and prior to that, if the weather is kind, the delayed Hallowe'en bonfire might even be dry enough to light. Details on the notice boards, on Facebook or in the press nearer the time.

One little East Williamston resident has, sadly, been missing from the village for a week.

If anyone has found a little female black and brown cat (called BeBe), who does like to stow away in cars, or could have just become lost, please call 01834 814774.

Cars have taken to speeding through the village, which does have a 30 mph limit, and drivers are begged to slow down in the interest of children and pets.
