A member of the public reported via a 999 call that she was at Freshwater East and could see flares being fired in the vicinity of Castlemartin shortly before 8 pm last Thursday.

She was informed that Castlemartin Range was active and firing white flares as part of a scheduled night shoot and thanked for her vigilance and her call.

Escorted

from bridge

Milford Haven Coastguard received a report from Dyfed Powys Police advising of a despondent male sitting on the Cleddau Bridge shortly before 7 pm on Saturday.

Before search and rescue units could be alerted, a second call from police advised that the male had been successfully escorted off the bridge and no further assistance was necessary.

Boy found safe

and well

Tenby Coastguard Rescue Team were called out on Saturday in response to a request from Dyfed Powys Police for assistance in their search for an eight-year-old boy, reported missing from his home in the vicinity of the town's South Cliff Street.

Whilst the coastguard team was in the process of mustering following the request shortly before 9.30 pm, police confirmed the child had been found safe and well.

Yacht in difficulty

Tenby's inshore lifeboat was launched at around 9.30 am on Sunday to go to the aid of a yacht in difficulty.

The Moonshine reported via VHF channel 67 that it had a fouled propeller.

The crew removed the rope to allow the vessel to proceed on its passage back to the River Tawe.

Flares were fireworks

Flares reported off Lydstep on Sunday turned out to be fireworks.

Milford Haven Coastguard Operations Room received a call from Dyfed Powys Police reporting the flares shortly after 11 pm.

Details of the first informant were obtained and then called.

Discussions revealed that the characteristics were not those of a distress flare, but fireworks.

Dyfed Powys Police were advised and the incident was considered a false alarm with good intent.

Members of the public are always encouraged to call 999 if they think they have seen a flare.

The coastguard will always investigate thoroughly.
