Now, as in past nine years, the Blooming Generation of St. Florence have just put behind them a wonderful week of festivities.
In the village hall last Saturday there was a party for all the junior school children living in the village.
Over 55 accepted and were entertained by the magician Philip Jones, who also gave a Punch and Judy show and made each child a balloon animal etc. The children also enjoyed hot dogs and other goodies, before a visit from Santa, who gave each child a selection box and gift. Alan Lesser kindly helped with this part of the proceedings.
On Tuesday, all the pre-school babies and toddlers, about 24 of them, met at Heatherton for an afternoon's play in 'Indianas', followed by a super box of party food and another visit from that busy gent who once again distributed the chocolates and presents which made everyone very happy.
Wednesday, the ninth annual Christmas Dinner Party for the senior citizens took place, with nearly 90 people accepting the invitation to join at the Cartwheel in Amroth, although a few did have to cancel through illness.
After everyone had taken a coach, car or taxi to the venue, the party started with hot punch, followed by Grace said by Canon Glyn Evans, then a superb dinner enjoyed by everyone, for which thanks go to Bob and his staff who all worked extremely hard.
A free raffle with 16 prizes, a gift for every party-goer and a terrific selection of songs and verse from Stage2, all went to make another wonderful evening.
Saturday more or less finished the very busy week with a 70-prize Christmas draw in the New Inn, with thanks to Gus and Sian, and Sunday was spent delivering the prizes and also gifts to those not able to enjoy the party through illness.
During the year, the teenagers were taken by coach to the dry ski slopes in Pembrey, and a meal in MacDonalds on the way home. Unfortunately, this day was not as popular as anticipated.
In June there was a free Strawberry Tea in the village hall for all over 60 years, although everyone was welcome to come along.
Finally, its back to all the fantastic villagers, who, without their support in the village monthly draw, none of these events would have taken place. It is hoped this support will continue in 2002.
A very big thank you also goes to Ann Shaw and Dorothy Vaughan who collect for the group, and Karen Evans and Doreen Evans, who also collect and who have both volunteered to join the small committee, which it is hoped will make less hectic times for Rita and Dorothy, who have for the past few years organised everything.
All six of will be around again in January hoping for your support, and anyone who would like to pay more than a month at a time is welcome to do so, making life a little easier, but the monthly collections will still continue.
Finally, the group would like to wish everyone a happy Christmas and the very best wishes for 2002.
