Reflecting on the past term's activities, it is evident how busy pupils and staff have been.
The football, rugby and netball teams have all played well and been successful. The cross country team competed at Carmarthen with good results, and one Year 6 pupil, Miranda Davies, went on to represent Pembrokeshire. Girls' and boys'gymnastic teams competed in the Oakwood competition at Tenby Leisure Centre and did well. For the first time, pupils took part in the Urdd Swimming Championships and had lots of success, Sydney Vickery, Year 4, represented Pembrokeshire at the Welsh Final in Wrexham and came first in her race.
Pupils have also continued to do well in music, with eight pupils attending county ensembles on Friday evenings. Elena Cicotti and Elliot Ronowitz competed at the Pembs. Urdd Music competitions, where Elena was placed second in the woodwind competition. Plans for the choir to entertain at the daffodil tea were curtailed due to the one nasty fall of snow that fell as pupils were beginning to walk to the venue.
At half-term, two members of staff, Mrs. Gaynor Day and Miss Nia Bignell, went off to Botswana to begin links with Northside International School. This was part of a Popogano link where the staff spent two weeks visiting schools and learning about the country. Pupils in Year 4 have already begun to make contact with pen-pals in the link school and this will become an important part of the geography curriculum in learning about global citizenship throughout the school.
St. David's Day was celebrated in style again this year with the annual Eisteddfod at school in the morning and a whole school Twmpath at the Leisure Centre in the afternoon. The staff provided the music and parents joined in the dancing. Parents were also entertained with performances of songs from each year group. Thanks to the staff from the Leisure Centre for their help on the afternoon and Mrs. Radford, the school cook, who prepared a Welsh menu for the day.
The Good News Bus from Emmanuel Church, Haverfordwest, was at school for two days, when pupils learned about 'The Maker's Instructions' based on the Ten Commandments.
Year 5 have taken their cycling proficiency tests this term and all passed with flying colours.
An open evening was held on March 17 for parents and carers to view the Interactive Whiteboards and to see some of the exciting resources being used to enhance teaching and learning at the school. Those who attended found the evening to be informative and enlightening. Thanks again to the PTA and Texaco for their kind donations enabling the IWB project to be achieved faster than anticipated.
At the end of March, pupils in Years 3, 4 and 5 entertained family and friends at a variety concert held at the De Valence. The venue was donated for the evening by the Mayor, Clr. Mrs. Caroline Thomas, who is also a governor of the school. Thanks to her for naming the school as her charity for the year. Money raised from the evening will be used to purchase equipment to be used with the new Interactive Whiteboards that are now in 11 classrooms.
The day before pupils broke up for the Easter holiday, a fun afternoon was held as part of the Health Promoting School project. Thanks to Mrs. Day and Mrs. Sweet who co-ordinated the event.
Thanks again to all who supported the school. A special mention and thanks to Mrs. Joy Ford-Kicinski, who was the school cook for a number of years. She is wished well for the future.
