Saundersfoot-based band My Significant Other have had a great start to what looks to be a very busy summer. Following on from their very successful Matisse gig at the end of June, the boys played the first date of their Welsh tour at the Monkey Bar in Swansea and then headed straight to Cardiff to the Screamadelica recording studios. Five days, four tracks and one music video later, they're back in Pembrokeshire and are gearing up for a hectic couple of months. Made up of brothers Liam and Jordan Watkins, Paul Hodge and Joe Lewis, the band has been playing together since 2005 when drummer Jordan was only 12-years-old. Now 15, Jordan is presently at Greenhill School and has his sights firmly set on going to university in America to study drumming. Lead singer, songwriter, rhythm guitarist Liam has just successfully completed an ND in music technology at Pembrokeshire College, while lead guitarist, backing vocalist Joe and bassist Paul have just sat their A-Levels at Greenhill School. Both Liam and Joe have been offered places at Bath Spa University to study commercial music, while Paul has been offered a place at the University of Glamorgan to study business. Despite being very busy with their studies, they have made good use of their time over the last three years writing material, rehearsing and playing numerous gigs all over the county. They started organising their own events a couple of years ago to provide an opportunity for talented young musicians to perform. The gigs, mainly at Tenby Rugby Club, turned out to be hugely popular and were soon filling to capacity. Always striving to improve, the boys then decided to branch out and bring in a few bigger bands from further afield, whilst still featuring local talent, to attract a wider and more diverse audience. This paid off when they attracted a huge crowd to the De Valence in Tenby in March when Belfast band Steer Clear headlined. Further success followed when the boys also played at Tenby Rugby Club with Dreamer and the Story So Far. The contacts and impression made at these gigs have enabled the boys to put together their Welsh tour which will take in Bridgend, Newport, Pontypridd, Swansea and Cardiff. Their next gig will be on home turf at Tenby Rugby Club tonight (Friday). The line-up for the evening is New Model Me, Winch House, Go-X, Twelve Star Alley and MSO, with Reading-based band Dissolved In headlining. This exciting quartet creates a pop/punk sound with a unique hint of electro. They put on very upbeat, energetic live shows with great confidence and are really looking forward to making their Tenby debut. Doors open at 7.30 pm, entry is £6.
