The county CAB reported record levels of activity in the three months ending December 2008.
Citizen Advice Bureau offices in Haverfordwest and Pembroke Dock are now amalgamated to form Pembrokeshire CAB. There has been a fourfold increase in clients seeking mortgage and secured loan advice. The teams of volunteer advisers have interviewed clients with problems relating to total debts of over £1.4 million pounds.
Redundancy cases have also increased by nearly 60 per cent. Jointly the offices in Haverfordwest and Pembroke Dock have successfully recovered funds of £66k in unclaimed benefits and other sources for clients seeking help.
"Due to the high level of requests for our services we are now very short of volunteer advisers," said county manager Nicola Roguski. "We need volunteer advisers who come from all walks of life all ages and backgrounds and the valuable skills they bring to the service will help us cope with our increasing workload."
Other volunteering roles are also available such as IT, admin and reception, as well as campaigners, fund-raisers and trustees.
Full training to a nationally recognised standard will be given to volunteer advisers who need to be able to give a few hours of their time each week.
