A Pembrokeshire-based businessman has swapped his office job for the boxing ring - all in the name of charity.

Dan Voaden, MD of Brombys, Templeton, took part in a white collar boxing night organised by the Funky Pump Fitness charity fundraisers at Swansea's Oceana, where pharmacists are pitted against posties and students against brickies in aid of good causes.

Dan, 43, laced on the gloves for the first time on Saturday following a gruelling 12-week training programme.

The cash raised by the blue team - of which Dan was a member - will go to Ty Hafan, while the red team will support Francesca's Footsteps, a charity which wants to raise £45k to send a little girl to America for surgery.

Said Dan afterwards: "Fight night in Swansea was amazing! We had an extremely lively crowd of over 1,400. I fought a lad called Caleb Miles and we drew our fight. We've been told it was one of the best fights of the evening in terms of technical ability and commitment, so I'm very proud.

"The blue team of which I was part, won the night over the red team with a score of six wins to four and four draws.

"The last three months have been an amazing experience. I've met some wonderful people, sparred with some very good boxers and learnt a lot, both about myself and boxing. There is nothing else quite like stepping into the ring, just you and your opponent in gladiatorial style. I have such a high respect for boxers now.

"The demands of the sport are simply unbelievable and until you have done it, you can't appreciate how tough it is. It has quite literally taken over my life and I am looking forward to getting back to my 'day job' of running Brombys and making it a company Pembrokeshire can be proud of.

"My immediate goal now is to put some weight back on - I lost a stone in the last four weeks of training alone, such was the intensity.

"In total we raised over £3,000 for charity and as this was the main driver for me, I'm delighted. This will be the first of many charitable events I and Brombys undertake.

"So my task is to think up what the next adventure will be! All suggestions by your readers welcome - they can email me direct at [email protected]">[email protected]. I genuinely will consider all suggestions - the crazier the better!"

A total of 150 shops across South Wales are stocked with Brombys sandwiches bearing a text donate code and donations to Ty Hafan can be made at justgiving.com/dan-voaden
