Work on the old school site for the new retail development, with the Sainsbury’s group having the flagship unit, will commence after Narberth Food Festival at the end of this coming September, it has been revealed this week.

“The start date was delayed to accommodate the food festival, which is one of Narberth’s premier events, and generates much into the economy of the town,” said County Councillor Wynne Evans.

He continued: “Demolition of the old school will be done in various stages. I like so many local people are delighted with this news. A number of well-known retailers are already showing expressions of interest in this prestigious landmark development and with a varied line up of retailers to suit all budgets, numerous new jobs will be created, and will add to the whole shopping experience in the town.

“I will hopefully be announcing who those retailers are in the coming months. The new stores are likely to be fully operational and trading by late September ’16, also a number of new flats will be available to local people only who are currently on social housing waiting lists, which I am sure will be welcomed by all.”

Clr. Evans added: “Exciting times are ahead for the town which is evolving rapidly, and growing with nearly 400 houses at various locations in and around the town happening within the next few years, and interest being shown in three other locations in Narberth by large housing developers.”
