A new website aimed at promoting tourism in Pembrokeshire has been launched by three Year 10 pupils at Tenby's Greenhill School.

As part of a business assignment for school, Joe Llama, Rob Fieldhouse and Jonathan Chandler decided to launch a website for businesses in the county to advertise on and for people thinking of visiting the area or even people living locally to look at and find things to do.

"The website is split up into sections, including accommodation, cafes and restaurants, and leisure to add to the ease of use," explained Joe, who lives in Tenby.

"Once we had created the site we had to launch it, so we went onto a web publisher called UK2.net and tried a few different site names, but the best one was http://www.searchpembrokeshire.co.uk">www.searchpembrokeshire.co.uk, so we bought the name for £102.20."

Continued Rob, of Milton: "In order to start the business off we had to get a loan, which happily we got from the Saltern Caravan Park, and ask businesses in the county whether they wanted to go onto the site.

"We are aiming to make the website a quick and easy way for people who are thinking of coming to Pembrokeshire to find attractions and places to stay and eat out, quickly and conveniently."

Joe, Rob and Jonathan, who are all 14, are also planning an advertising campaign, and in addition will be putting up posters in the area over the Christmas holidays.

So far their clients include the Saltern Caravan Park, St. Bride's Hotel, Powell's Cottage Holidays, the Pam Pam Restaurant, Blueberrys Cafe, Heatherton and Folly Farm.

"We are also hoping to add Pembrokeshire College, Silent World and the Dinosaur Park to our growing list of clients," commented Jonathan, who resides in Jeffreyston.

All the money made from the website, which the 14-year-olds took 10 hours to create, will be donated to Cancer Research UK.

"After paying off the loan and advertising costs, we hope to raise about £200 for the charity," said Rob.

"To access the site, log on to http://www.searchpembrokeshire.co.uk">www.searchpembrokeshire.co.uk and then all you need to do is find the category you want and select it," continued Joe.

"The site acts as a hub for people to look at the facilities in Pembrokeshire, there is a brief description of what our clients offer and a link to their own websites to find out more."

The site, which has already had around 200 hits since being launched two weeks ago, will stay on-line until November 16, 2004.
