During this past week, Year 5 and 6 pupils from Class 2 in Penally VC School have been very busy putting their hands to designing advertisements for some local businesses.

The activity has involved not just designing, but the use of language, art, maths and computer skills.

Finding the right words within a limited space for the advertisements was very tricky, as well as finding suitable pictures and graphics to illustrate them.

Working within certain sized rectangles, each pupil planned four or five designs by hand, before drafting out their final design on the computer. Arranging the space for the advertisements on the page and organising the spaces between them linked to some problem solving work involving areas.

Most of the pupils agreed with Holly, who was quoted as saying: "It was hard to do at first, but eventually we got the hang of it and it was fun and we all enjoyed it."

Our class teacher said that "the project has been a great experience, not least of all being that the pupils' work had to be completed by a set deadline - reinforcing a class target of completing work on time!"

The pupils would like to thank the Tenby Observer for providing this valuable opportunity and all the local businesses who agreed to participate.

Here is a list of the pupils with the name of the local businesses whose advertisements they designed:
