Shadow Welsh Regeneration Minister Angela Burns has organised a business summit to help Tenby enterprises weather the recession.

The event will be attended by the chief executive of the National Park Authority, the town council and the regeneration department of Pembrokeshire County Council.

"I had so many businesses from Tenby contact me because they are worried about the future that something had to be done," explained Mrs. Burns.

"The terrible fire at the Gatehouse Hotel was a real blow to the start of last year's tourist season and the credit crunch is now hitting everyone.

"I have been told that nine businesses in the town have gone under this winter, which is catastrophic.

"We need a joined-up approach between the councils, the elected representatives, the planning authority and local businesses if we are to try to help soften the blow of the recession."

The meeting is open to all Tenby businesses and will take place at the Fourcroft Hotel at 7 pm on March 23.

"Anyone who runs a business, however large or small, in the Tenby area is welcome to come and put forward their problems and solutions," said Mrs. Burns.

"I hope that this meeting will come up with some good, workable ideas that will make a real difference to the future of Tenby."
