Learning Pembrokeshire is pleased to offer a new opportunity at Tenby Community Learning Centre. On Wednesday, February 11, from 10 am - 1 pm, the centre's newest tutor will be offering a unique opportunity. Chris Elliot will be showing learners how to carve their very own bushcraft cutlery!

Learners need a minimal amount of bushcraft tools to produce their own handcrafted spoon, but all tools and materials that are required will be provided and you will be guided through the whole carving process.

After your introduction to the tools, you will be shown how to maintain and sharpen correctly. You will also learn about the after-treatment of your items. You will also be shown a variety of safe and efficient carving techniques using an axe, knife and a pruning saw.

The spoons you make are your own to take away with you and they can be as practical or as decorative as you like.

The tutor likes to emphasis issues such as: sustainable harvesting, correct pruning, the value of wildlife and tree identification. You will also gain an insight into the many uses of various plant materials that are intrinsic to bushcraft activities as well as learn about some properties of various native woods.
