Mayor of Narberth, Clr. Eric Feetham, has described opening the town's Bus Stop youth project as a 'great honour'. The project, at the former boxing hut at the Town Moor, was officially launched by Clr. Feetham and AM Christine Gwyther. "It was a great honour to declare the Bus Stop opening," said Clr. Feetham at Tuesday night's meeting of the town council. "It is a wonderful facility and a tremendous amount of work has gone into it by a group of dedicated volunteers," he continued. "Christine Gwyther thought it was very, very good too. It is a great asset to Narberth, and I think the council should write congratulating all concerned," Clr. Feetham suggested. Members agreed. The Bus Stop was the idea of Clr. Mrs. Sue Rees, who is "absolutely thrilled to bits." A year ago, the project was set-up in a temporary home at the Span Building, thanks to a donation from the town council. In May, work began to convert the former boxing club at the lower Town Moor car park into the project's headquarters. "The building was in a terrible state," said Clr. Mrs. Rees. "There were no toilets, kitchen or ceilings, but we had a small team of volunteers who have worked tirelessly hard to convert the building and give it a new lease of life for the young people of the town." The Bus Stop, which is open every Tuesday and Thursday evening between 5 and 9 pm, now has pool, darts, table tennis, table-top football, music, computers for the young people to enjoy, as well as a coffee bar. And Clr. Mrs. Rees was quick to pay tribute to everyone who has helped: Peter and Jean Jenkins, who were involved with building and decorating work; Heinz Holland; youth leader Dave Morgan; volunteers Seadina, Elizabeth, Suzanne; Jane, and Andrew Rees, who are trustees; Geoff Jones; Sign Box for the sign; Clr. David Norcross; Narberth Cubs and Scouts; Narberth Chamber of Trade; Haverfordwest Coins, who donated a pool table, enabling the county youth team to be run from the venue; Tenby Observer, Western Telegraph and Radio Pembrokeshire; Richard Darwin; Carol Powell; Span Arts; Gareth Dean, the electrician; Ken Richardson; Young Bros Ltd., and Clive Edwards, who donated bus seats; Maureen Ruskin, who donated the kitchen; Greenhill School; Hank Hart, of the boxing club; Owen O'Connell, the plumber; and John Davies JP. Financial grants have been generously given by Narberth Town Council, Dyfed Powys Police, PAVS, and Tenby and Saundersfoot Lions Club.
