A local auctioneer has been asked to sell an item of local interest. RWG Auctions will be selling a working model steam locomotive tomorrow (Saturday) at Carew Market Pavilion.
It is a replica model of 'Bull Dog', which was one of the original engines for the Saundersfoot Railway. The 'Bull Dog' was originally commissioned in 1914 when horse traction was finally abandoned. It was given a works number of 2401. The locomotive was designed to clear the height of the Saundersfoot tunnel by six inches, weighed 12.5 tonnes and ran on a four-foot gauge track.
The 'Bull Dog' replica is a five-inch gauge 0-4-0 saddle tank scratch built garden railway live-steam locomotive. The model was built by Alan Priddey from Bolton, a model engineer. It took five years to complete and was finished and certified in 1998. It is built to the scale of approximately one inch to the foot.
A selection of Alan's hand drawn plans are also being sold with the model.
What an opportunity to own a 'big boys toy' with such a local interest.
Viewing is at Carew Market Pavilion on Carew Airfield between 4 and 7 pm today (Friday). The auction takes place tomorrow (Saturday), and doors open at 9 am.
