The green light for a number of transport projects across Pembrokeshire has been welcomed by Labour AM, Alun Davies.

The Minister for Transport, Ieuan Wyn Jones, has outlined the schedule of improvements to the A40 between Penblewin and Slebech, The Kell and Llanddewi Velfrey.

Alun Davies said: "We all welcome the improvements to the A40, we need to focus the debate on tackling the problems of high volumes of traffic through Robeston Wathen and Llanddewi Velfrey. The recent debate of dualling the A40 is distracting the real argument that this work must be completed first to improve safety for local residents"

Road improvements on the A477 between St. Clears and Red Roses ware scheduled to begin before 2014 where the dangerous nature of the road has made it an accident blackspot.

Alun Davies continues: "Not only do we need to focus on public transport; we need to make significant improvements to the A477 which handles a great deal of traffic to and from Ireland. This route is especially busy during the summer with an increase in holiday traffic. I am regularly made aware of accidents along this route as well as weather related closures.

Railway improvements also under consideration include the intention to improve Carmarthen railway station and the redoubling of the line over Loughor bridge linking Carmarthenshire and the city and county of Swansea.

"Key to better transport links across west Wales is the much needed work to redouble the line at Loughor Bridge. This bottle neck is no longer acceptable and is choking the development of services both passenger and freight west of Swansea. We will never achieve more regular services to Pembroke Dock and Milford Haven without this work being completed."

"Of interest to Pembrokeshire residents is the plan to redevelop Carmarthen station which I know will be welcome news for those who frequent the station."
