Pembrokeshire Schools Weightlifting Championships took place recently.

This competition in the sport of Olympic weightlifting was held at Sir Thomas Picton School, Haverfordwest. It was last held here 27 years ago.

It was an inter-school event, but open to all Pembrokeshire lifters under 17, also open for guests to compete, but not medal.

There were 35 lifters (three guests). Six out of eight secondary schools entered teams, plus one primary school.

Technical officials were: Steve Donovan, Haverfordwest; Darren Rogers, Haverfordwest; Ania Negele, SA1 Swansea; Josh Bellow, SA1 Swansea; Helena Madan, Haverfordwest; Brittany Thomas, Pembroke; Tim Jackson, Tenby; Alex John, Haverfordwest.

Other volunteers were Niamh Roach, Chloe Hood, Dylan Williamson, Jay Rogers, Josh Yau.

Local results were as follows:

Pembroke School - Years 9 and 10 male: Devin Baker, 45 kg class, first; Danny Cutler, 50 kg class, second; Jack Thomas, 56 kg class first, best lifter Years 9 and 10, three Welsh records. Years 11, 12 and 13 female: Sarah Cutler, 63kg class, first.

Golden Grove - Years 7 and 8 (and under): Madison Clague, 35kg class, first; Lexi Thomas, 45kg class, first.

Greenhill School - 40 kg class - Cian John, fourth; 62kg class, Dewi Jackson, first; Harvey Carling-Jarvis, second.
