Well-known Broadmoor businessman, Jim Codd, was the clear choice to represent East Williamston on Pembrokeshire County Council last week.
At a by-election last Thursday, Mr. Codd polled well over threequarters of the votes for the vacant seat which arose following the resignation of long-standing councillor Gordon Williams.
Mr. Codd, of Ashlea, Broadmoor, ran his own business, which included the post office, convenience stores and bicycle repair shop, in the village for 33 years.
Independent candidate, Mr. Codd topped the poll with 651 votes, 530 more than nearest rival, Mr. Royston Allenby Morgan.
Retired education officer, Mr. Morgan, of The Anchorage, Broadmoor, netted 117 votes, while third place went to Conservative candidate, retired major Mr. John Neville Bosley, of Ragged Staff, Saundersfoot, who took 72 votes.
Turnout for the by-election by voters in Cresselly, Jeffreyston, East Williamston, Pentlepoir and Broadmoor was 45.8 per cent.
Joining the council makes it a family double for Mr. Codd, as his father, Desmond, has represented the Camrose ward for many years and is currently chairman of the county's policy and resources committee.
