Two teams of rowers from Broad Haven Baptist Church recently competed in the Welsh Sea Rowing Event at Black Tar, Llangwm. The nine crews rowed long-boats in a bid to win the novice race. The 'Kings' team from Broad Haven were placed second and the 'Rowing Pains' team, also from Broad Haven, were pipped into fourth place on the line. The race was not only for fun, but also raised funds for the rowers' chosen charities. Tearfund and Pembrokeshire Homeless are the charities benefiting from the two Baptist Church teams. Members of Rowing Pains and the Kings teams were complete novices to rowing, but have decided to continue to build on their rowing skills and are looking to form a male and a female team. "Our teams have decided to keep on rowing," said said Francis Maull, church representative co- ordinator (Pembrokeshire) for Tearfund. "They were mixed teams, but the women now want to take on the men. On a sunny Saturday, with God on our side, the rowers did their best. The novice race took about 20 minutes to complete, so it was quite a challenge, with the rowers collapsing over their oars at the finish line in good Boat Race fashion. "The event was a great success and the organisation by the local club was first class."
