The British Red Cross in Narberth are asking for local people to consider volunteering with the charity as the busy summer season approaches. The shop, at 6 Market Square, opens to the public from 9 am to 5 pm, Monday to Saturday, but more people are needed to help run the store. The charity shop relies on volunteers to ensure that donations are sorted and cleaned, the shop is well presented and customers receive excellent service. This, in turn, leads to the smooth running of the shop and helps the Red Cross raise valuable funds. Eirwen Davies, shop manager, said: "We have some wonderful volunteers who work really hard to keep the store running, but the summer is always a busy period for us, so it would be wonderful to have a few more volunteers to help us out. I urge anyone with a couple of hours a week to spare to pop in and talk to us about volunteering as it can be great fun and very rewarding." The shop offers for sale second-hand clothing, housewares, books, multimedia and small electrical items such as lamps, toasters and hairdryers. Charity shops are a vital source of funding to support the work of the Red Cross. All the profits generated from the shop go towards helping people in crisis situations - whether that is responding to a large-scale emergency overseas or to fund Red Cross services that help people much closer to home. Eirwen explained: "The store exists entirely on donations from the public and we are very grateful for the generous contributions we receive. I encourage anyone clearing out their wardrobes to pop any unwanted items along to the shop." The shop also accepts second-hand textiles (like linen or curtains etc). If they are in good condition, they can be sold in the shop. If they are no longer useable, they can be sold to textile merchants, thereby still raising money.
