The British Red Cross is urging people looking for a new challenge to volunteer with the charity.

An open event is taking place at the Picton Centre, Haverfordwest, on Tuesday, February 4, between 4 and 8 pm, for people to learn more about how they can help and to sign up as a volunteer.

Additional volunteers are needed for a range of Red Cross services offered in Pembrokeshire. These include Gofal y Ddolen, which supports vulnerable and isolated people across South Wales; patient transfer, and community based first aid training.

The charity is also looking for more first aid volunteers to cover sporting and public events throughout South West Wales, as well as emergency response volunteers to be deployed at times of crisis, such as during severe weather.

Cara Evans, volunteer recruitment officer at the charity, said: "The Red Cross is a volunteer-led organisation which offers a wide range of services to help people cope with a personal crisis. Whether that's visiting someone in their home after being discharged from hospital or supporting local authorities and emergency services respond to flooding; it's our volunteers that make this happen.

"We need more people to sign up with us to make sure those members of our community who require a little help have access to the support they need. I encourage anyone who could offer a couple of hours a week to contact us and learn more about the various Red Cross services."

All volunteers can expect full support and training throughout their volunteering journey and reasonable expenses will be paid.

Those who wish to find out more about the open event or volunteering in general can call 0300 100 1400 or email [email protected]">[email protected]. Or they can go along to the open event from 4 pm on Tuesday, February 4, at The Picton Centre, Haverfordwest.
