This weekend, June 23/24, sees round two of the British Autograss Series coming to Lamphey, just outside Pembroke. It is anticipated that around 500-600 competitors will be competing on the large, fast local track. The competitors will be travelling from Scotland, Northern and Southern Ireland, England and, of course, Wales to compete in the various classes - men's, ladies and juniors. The Pembrokeshire Autograss Club is the host for this prestigious event, with 19 of their members registered to race in the series, so the majority of local drivers will be competing against the superstars of autograss racing. The PAC club has always had a great record in the British series and currently has two class British champions, as well as the overall ladies British champion, Michaela Bevans from Cosheston, with car number PAC 5. Following the first round held in Gloucester in May, Michaela is standing in second place in class one and third in class seven with her new WL Racefals Mini powered by a Hyabusa bike engine. Nathan Rees PAC 57, a former junior and class one British champion, is competing in class six with a Micra shell powered by an eight valve Vauxhall engine and is currently lying in fourth place just 19 points behind the leader. Tomas Rees PAC 39 is competing in the junior special category and had a second and two thirds in his qualifying heats and finished sixth in the final, giving him an overall eighth place. Other PAC members hoping to do better on home ground are Gary Phillips and Daniel Edwards in class one, Dean Smith and Chris Jordan in class two, Lewis Richards in class five, Marc Jones in class six, Paul Edwards, Gary and Caroline Rees in the men's and ladies class seven, Steven Brown in class nine and Joanna Mess in the ladies class five. Moving on to the juniors. Ryan Smith PAC 40 just missed his final by a few points; also competing in the junior section will be Alice Bevans, Dalton Thomas and Dexter Thomas. Rob Corbett had a good opening round at Gloucester with two firsts and a fourth in his qualifying heats and second in the final, giving him second place overall in the championship, just 10 points behind the leader. The racing starts at 9 am on both days, with each competition having two heats on the Saturday, with a third head on Sunday orning, followed by the exciting grand finals in the afternoon. The race field will be open from 12 noon on the Thursday before and all amenities will be on site. For further details, telephone Joan on 01646 686253.
