Tenby Male Choir were back at St. Mary’s Church on Thursday, July 12. The church quickly filled with an audience eager to hear them perform. It was a very hot evening so once again shirts and ties were on display. No uniform malfunctions this week! Our MD Ian Williams did start the concert with his jacket on, but soon discarded it as his enthusiastic and entertaining conducting proved too problematic in the heat.

The choir gave a brilliant performance and once again our MC David Blackmore enjoyed bantering with the audience whilst the choristers assembled and disassembled. The choir had sung Shenandoah in their first set and a man in the audience told us that he had sung this song in 1964 when he proposed to his wife as they crossed the said river!

Paul Varallo was our soloist for the evening and sang a range of songs including an old favourite of mine, ‘Twas on a Monday morning that the gas man came to call that I haven’t heard in years.

Every time that the choir sings Benedictus, I am reminded of our trip to Malta in 2015 though I have to say that this piece sounds better and better each time that they sing it.

Two visiting choristers joined the choir for their final number and once again Dr John Harrison added the church organ to the mix.

Our Accompanist Jill Williams had no break as she supported the choir and Paul. Jill did a sterling job as usual.

Tenby Male Choir will next perform at St. Johns Church in Tenby on July 24. St. Johns is celebrating its 150th birthday. Doors will open at 7.30 for an 8 pm start. The choir will also sing at Cresswell Quay on Friday, July 27, at 6 pm. There will also be a barbecue organised by the choir. There will be a total lunar eclipse during the evening, but unless we head for higher ground, we will miss seeing this. Visit our website tenbymalechoir to view our full programme for 2018.
