When Emily Portman last performed at Burnett's Hill Chapel, Martletwy, five years ago, she was a recent graduate of the folk music course at Newcastle University and was just starting out on her professional career as a singer and musician.

Since then, her career has progressed in leaps and bounds and she is now widely regarded as one of the brightest talents on the British folk scene.

Her first album, 'The Glamoury', earned a string of music industry awards and a track from the album, 'Stick Stock', was voted best original song at the BBC Folk Awards in 2011. Her new album, 'The Hatchling', has gone straight into the Amazon Folk/Roots top twenty.

Next week, Burnett's Hill will be welcoming back Emily, this time with her own trio featuring Celtic harp, fiddle and concertina.

"We have been following Emily's career with interest ever since she first performed here, and we are delighted that she has done so well and also that she is keen to return to Burnett's Hill," said chapel trustee Rob Scourfield.

The Burnett's Hill concert is the only Welsh date on the trio's current British tour to promote the new album. It takes place on Tuesday, October 2, at 7.30 pm, and tickets are available from the Pembroke Bookshop (01646) 685144.
