Whitland played their re-arranged Konica Minolta Cup match against premiership opposition when Cross Keys were the visitors to a very heavy Parc Llwyn Ty Gwyn on Saturday. For the neutrals in the crowd, it would have had a hard job to distinguish who was from which division, with the Whitland pack edging their counterparts in all set phases of the match, but the Keys edging it slightly behind. Cross Keys took the lead in the eighth minute when fullback Justin Thomas kicked a penalty. Whitland did have a chance to draw level with an easy penalty, but scrum-half Andrew Jenkins took a quick one, hoping to turn it into seven points, but was brought down just short and the chance went begging. This left the half-time score 3-0 to the visitors. After 14 minutes of the second half, Keys right winger Mark McKee crossed for the only try of the game in the top corner, after good play by centre Dan Dark and fullback Justin Thomas, who failed with the conversion attempt. Whitland did get on the score sheet with some 10 minutes to go, with an Aled Davies penalty, but could not summon up enough reserves to conjure another score. The match finished with victory for a relieved Cross Keys by eight points to three. Match referee was Jonathan Mason. Man-of-the-match was the ever-present flanker Phil Morgan, nominated by the match sponsors.
