A young boy has been recovering in hospital this week after falling 20 feet down a cliff onto rocks in Tenby on Sunday afternoon.
Six-year-old Rhidian Bowen from Merthyr Tydfil was with his grandparents on a day trip to the resort when he sustained a severely cut head, fractured knee and various cuts to his hands and face in the accident which occurred near Iron Bar Beach Steps at approximately 4.15 pm.
A doctor from Carmarthen, who was on the beach at the time of the accident, gave the boy immediate medical assistance, before he was airlifted by the Welsh Air Ambulance to Withybush Hospital in Haverfordwest.
Police, an ambulance crew and coastguards also attended the scene and helped in the rescue operation.
The boy was treated at Withybush Hospital for his injuries over the weekend, before being transferred to a hospital in the Merthyr area on Tuesday.
"The air ambulance took just seven minutes to get to the incident which shows the value of the service," commented Sergeant Howard Lloyd at Tenby police station. "The skill of the pilot concerned must also be mentioned in him being able to land in such a confined space, especially as the tide was coming in.
"I hope this service is appreciated by everyone in West Wales," he continued.
"While we do not want to spoil anyone's fun, we do urge all people with children to keep an eye on them whilst on the beach," he added.
