Carew Castle will take a step back in time at the end of August when it welcomes visitors from the Medieval age.
On Saturday and Sunday, August 31 and September 1, the castle will host a Grand Medieval Muster, welcoming the Wolfshead Bowmen, one of Britain's best-known medieval re-enactment groups.
As well as archery demonstrations using the famed longbow, the history of the castle will be brought to life with a period campsite, medieval music and other forms of combat using the sword and quarterstaff. The aroma of medieval style cooking will fill the air as the bowmen set up camp.
The costumed archers will demonstrate the ancient art of 'shooting the bow' and showing just how effective the famous longbow was. The weapon was the backbone of English armies for centuries and among victories claimed to the longbow was the Battle of Crecy in 1346 when bowmen from Carew wreaked havoc among the French.
In an event combining both entertainment and education, the Wolfshead Bowmen promise to take visitors back through the centuries. There will also be the opportunity for members of the public to try the long bow for themselves.
Normal entry charges will apply to the event and further information can be obtained from Carew Castle, Carew (tel: 01646 651782).
