Members and friends of Tenby Bowling Club will be raising funds for a children's orphanage in Sri Lanka, when they take part in the club's annual Corals Tournament in May. After being moved by the events of the tsunami disaster and the plight of the thousands of orphans, tournament organiser, Mr. Sam McNeilly contacted the Sri Lankan Embassy in London and asked if the club could help. "I spoke to a member of the diplomatic staff and asked if we could help," said Mr. McNeilly. "I was told that an orphanage was being set-up in the Komari in the eastern province for tsunami affected children. "The SOS village will have approximately 10 houses, each accommodating 10 children under the care of a 'mother' who would be in charge of them." As a result, Tenby Bowling Club decided to not only donate the tournament's £450 prize-money to the orphanage, but also the £240 which will be collected through entry fees. In addition, the organisers are hoping that generous donations will round the sum raised up to £1,000. "We would like to thank our sponsors Corals and Acorn Leisure for agreeing to our decision," said Mr. McNeilly. "We would also like to thank Powells Cottage Holidays, Saundersfoot, for giving us a generous substitute prize, a holiday for six at a thatched cottage in Devon," he added. With an excellent prize up for grabs, the Sutton Street club expects to have no problems on getting a full complement of players to take part in the event on Bank Holiday Monday, May 30, as the competition will also be open to bowlers from Saundersfoot and Pembroke Dock. The competition will commence at 9 am and as the club is open to members of the public, anyone is welcome to go along and support the bowlers. The bar will be open at 12 noon until late and there will be a programme of light entertainment to round off the day. Anyone wishing to make a donation to the orphanage can take it along to the club on a Monday or Thursday between 10 am and 12 noon or send it to either the club or Mr. McNeilly, 1 The Coastguard House, Broadwell Hayes, Tenby. Cheques should be made payable to Tenby Bowling Club.
