Five Arches 86
St. Katherines 57
On a fine sunny July afternoon, the Five Arches entertained the St. Katherines team from Milford Haven. We are currently top of the Second Division so another good performance would help greatly in our quest for promotion.
On Rink one (again), Tony and team of living legends enjoyed a very successful afternoon. Tony was joined by long time Five Arches player Ron Hurlow, who was making his 2011 debut, all-round good guy Lewis Hilling and a young lad with big future ahead of him Peter Hooper. They lost the first end, but that was the only time they were behind in the game. Winning by 13 shots to four at tea, they maintained their lead throughout the second half and eased to a 22-13 win.
Jon Hubbard skipped for the first time this season and was involved in a thriller. Well supported by the dynamic duo of Steve and John and the returning Gwyn they were always just behind in a close match. With four ends to play, they were five shots down but won all the remaining ends, including a three on the last to win by 17 shots to 15.
Ashley and his rink of Dai, Dewi and Tony started slowly on rink four and were trailing by six shots to three after six ends. However, they won the next 10 ends to build up a 20 shot lead and ran out comfortable winners by 28 shots to 10.
Rink five also saw a thriller. Lee and his rink of Stuart, Harold and Clive had their usual slow start and trailed by two shots at tea. They battled back well as usual and on the final end clinched an important draw to finish 19 shots-all. The quality of the bowls throughout the match was superb with very player contributing.
Another 13 points and a very successful afternoon. Our next fixture is against St. Issell's on Sunday, August 14.
