ST. BRIDES 17

TENBY GOSCAR 28

Goscar travelled to Saundersfoot to play the St. Brides team who were top of the league.

Goscar settled down well on Saundersfoot's excellent green, scoring a six and a five before tea.

The tea break revived the St. Brides rink and they won a number of ends before Goscar again found their form and came back strongly on the last three ends to win comfortably.

Goscar team: D. Rees, B. Winstone, R. Hine, skip H. Ebdon.

TENBY ARCHES 43 SAUNDERSFOOT 36.75

The ladies (sponsored by The Fourcroft Hotel) travelled away to Saundersfoot last Tuesday.

The weather was very nice; it was just a pity that the home side could only field seven players.

On rink four, Julia's side were 6-15 down at tea-time, but they fought back to pick up a six, four and several twos to finish 20-21.75 (after a quarter deducted).

Rink three saw Alison's side in the same boat at tea-time, 6-10 down. They managed to win the last five ends to finish 23-15.

Rink scores (Tenby first, Saundersfoot skips only):

L. Evans, M. Marquiss, V. Williams, J. King-Thomas 20; G. Amos 21.75.

L. Delabertouche, A. Owens, H. Baggott, A. Redman 23; A. Davies 15.

Pendine 93

Five Arches 64

Saturday saw the Five Arches team visit unbeaten Pendine.

This was always going to be a tough match as Pendine are the force to be recognised in the Second Division this year and the Five Arches have failed to play as well away, as they do in Tenby.

However, hopes were high that they could cause a bit of an upset. So far this season, they have been blessed with good weather and Saturday was no exception.

Tony and his team of Eamonn, Ben and Ray had a cautious start and were 5-4 down after six ends. The Pendine quartet then pulled away on a tricky surface and led 21-8 after 16 ends. A brief flurry of four shots from the Five Arches promised a tight finish, but Pendine finished strongly to win by 25 shots to 12.

Clive and his rink of Ken, Aaron and Mike had a very similar match to Tony's rink; a close start, but with the Pendine foursome pulling away in the middle of the match to ease to a winning margin and again winning by 25 shots to 12.

Ashley and his rink of Dai, Tony and Gwyn were involved in a very tight match. Leading 11-10 at tea, the match continued in a similar vein in the second half, with the Five Arches quartet just holding on to win by two shots.

Lee and his rink of Ken, John and Ben, surprisingly not on rink three, had a close encounter with former Five Arches player Dai King Thomas.

In a tight match, Pendine just had the edge, but with the Five Arches picking up a four on the 19th end, an exciting finish ensued, with the Pendine rink holding on to win 21-16.

Overall, a disappointing result for the Five Arches, but with two matches in the coming week, they need to get back to winning ways.

Rink scores (Five Arches first, Pendine skips only):

Eamonn Maher, Ben Simmons, Ray Taylor, Tony Brown 12; S. King Thomas 25.

Ken Williams, Aaron Lloyd, Mike Gouldingay, Clive Webb 12; M. Evans 25.

Dai Rees, Tony Powling, Gwyn Beynon, Ashley Hooper 24; M. Thomas 22.

Ken Lloyd, John Hubbard, Ben Cloake, Lee Richards 16; D. King Thomas 21.
